In May 2017 Mark Dando opened the doors to The Old Packhouse Distillery where he continues to make award-winning artisanal gin in the foothills of Limpopo's Wolkberg Mountains.
The area is primarily a subtropical, agricultural hub which enables The Old Packhouse Distillery to create fantastic flavour profiles with the locally sourced fresh, natural fruits and botanicals such as blueberries, lemons, Moringa leaves, Tango mandarins and Valencia oranges.
The first gin produced here was Blueberry Gin, which still today remains The Old Packhouse Distillery's flagship — the company was actually called Blueberry Gin in those early days. Under the innovative and creative hand of Mark Dando, the distillery continues to produce new and exciting varieties. For example, The Old Packhouse’s Rare Moringa Gin, made with local moringa (a medicinal plant native to Asia but also produced throughout Africa) was awarded a Double Gold medal at the 2018 Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards.
In addition The Old Packhouse also produces a more traditional Crystal Gin (another Gold medal winner at the Michelangelo Awards), a Pink Moringa Gin, and the double-gold-winning African Wild Dog Rare Gin.
The Old Packhouse Distillery has achieved multiple double gold and gold awards for excellence from esteemed competitors, including The Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards, The Woman’s Wine and Spirits Awards, The South African Craft Gin Awards and the Sip Awards in the USA. As an award-winning entity, The Old Packhouse Distillery aims at producing exemplary gins to bring you a taste of nature’s best with every sip.
