Description
This beautiful example of ancient Honey Wine has a history going back to the Middle ages, when Poland mostly consisted of dark forests and cold, harsh terrain. But there was one thing the land brought forth in abundance: honey.
A young tanner (whose name has been lost to the centuries) from the village now known as Giecz, created a drink he called Mellonia for the ancient Roman Goddess of bees. He added a mix of spices to some honey-infused spirits, together with the oil from an orange skin and created this sweet honey aperitif.
Today, we bring you our version of this heart-warming, intoxicatingly sweet mead recipe that has been passed down for generations.
