Description
Whisky vs Whiskey – what’s the difference?
Consider the country of origin when figuring out the correct spelling – the rules are simple:
- If it was distilled in the USA or Ireland, use the e: whiskey
- If it’s made in Scotland, Canada or Japan – or for that matter anywhere else in the world, including South Africa – it is spelt without the e: whisky
The difference is also reflected in the plural: – whisky - whiskies and whiskey - whiskeys
