Short Description:
Unconditional Gin: creating unique, world class gin. We had a definite vision for our gin: it had to be not only unique, premium in quality and sensational in flavour, but had to  be recognized by smell and taste. With a multitude of gins on the market, our gin needed to stand out and it needed to reaffirm longevity.
Description:

Jacques Botha, CEO of Liquid2Lip Brands has announced the launch of an exclusive new range of gins. “I am so proud and happy to present and introduce our new gin range, which will be launch the moment the current alcohol ban is lifted.”

Unconditional Gin came to life early in 2020. What inspired us and lead to the concept of our gin, was the unconditional care and love shown by so many South Africans during those early days of the Covid pandemic. We wanted to create a unique and exceptional gin to celebrate this unconditional giving spirit which brought people closer in a time of unprecedented hardship.

The autumn colour scheme was chosen as it is a visible sign of change, indicating the end of one season and the start of a new one.

We had a definite vision for our gin: it had to be not only unique, premium in quality and sensational in flavour, but had to  be recognized by smell and taste. With a multitude of gins on the market, our gin needed to stand out and it needed to reaffirm longevity.

True love is unconditional – it sets no boundaries of conditionality, yet requires commitment. That is the exact vision and motto for our brands:

While we are fully committed to delivering the best in quality, our gin had to have unique characteristics, and one that will appeal to those who are more adventurous in nature, or tired of the repetitive flavour profile of most gins on the market.

Grape spirit forms the base of our gin, which is produced using Colombard and Chenin Blanc grapes harvested from Grabouw in the Western Cape winelands where the  altitude, the cooler weather and soil creates sweeter grapes.

The variants of Unconditional Gin:

Our classic / original gin has a floral nose with fruity berry tones and sweet citrus notes. The aftertaste is that of Turkish Delight and will remind many of the pink sweets they use to enjoy as children.

The same berry and floral notes are found in our Witchcraft Gin, which features less rose and more blue peaflowers.

Peaflower is nature’s ph indicator: it changes colour when a more acidic element is introduced. Tonic being acidic, the gin turns colour from blue to a beautiful pink!

Remembrance is our classic gin, but we enhance and deepen the woody and earthy flavour profile on our gin, by aging it in french oak barrels. We use 100l barrels due to the small batches that we produce and to ensure that each batch has a consistent flavour profile. Due to the craft and small batch distillation, each batch is unique and the flavour profile will have slight variation.

Everafter is a black gin, floral and berry notes with black squid ink to create this luscious black gin

 The Botanicals:

  • Juniper, coriander, angelica root.
  • Cardamon, cassia bark, orange peel, lemon zest.
  • Strawberries, raspberries, rose water.

The oranges used in our gin are sourced from a farm on the Orange River in Citrusdal, an area reknowned for the unique flavour of its citrus, which is ultimately added to our gin.

Making Unconditional Gin

Jacques explains: “Our custom 1000l mash tun boiler with a copper kettle and multi-column plates still makes it possible for us to produce spirits with a large variety of base ingredients. Botanicals, with the exception of the rose water, are soaked in our base spirit for 24 hours. After an extensive soak and maceration, the mixture is ready for distillation, and we use a pot still for our gin distillation.

“Once the spirit has heated up, we add in the botanicals starting with the juniper berries, and then the strawberries and raspberries are added to the basket whilst distillation is taking place. Once the distillation is completed the gin is set aside, then stored in stainless steel drums (which is numbered in sequence as they come out of the still) for 7 days.”

  • The range will be available via Takelot, Makro, and Tops stores as a starting point.
