Mexican hot chocolate with tequila/agave spirits and cayenne pepper
There is a freezing weekend ahead of us, and one way counter the cold is a warm chocolatey drink laced with something that will give it a kick. Like tequila or Karoo agave.
Give this winter winner a try:
- 3 cups milk
- 50g best quality dark chocolate (75%), broken in chunks
- 6 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp brown Sugar
- pinch of cayenne pepper, or to taste
- 100ml tequila/agave spirit
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (optional)
- cinnamon to garnish
Warm the milk in a heavy saucepan over medium heat.
Add the chocolate chunks, sugar and cocoa powder.
Heat slowly while stirring frequently, until the chocolate has melted. Whisk to to combine all ingredients.
Season with the cayenne pepper and pour the mixture into two mugs. Stir in
Pour the warm milk into 2 large mugs and add a tot of tequila/agave spirit to each. If preferred, top with whipping cream and sprinkle with cinnamon. Add a stick or two of cinnamon for stirring.
