Our Cape Kelp Gin captures the essence of the wild oceans that surround us. A key botanical is Laminaria pallida kelp, giving it a distinct savoury flavour and aroma reminiscent of a walk on the beach after a classic Cape storm.
On the nose there are hints of juniper, sea saltiness and wet pebbles, followed by kelp tanginess and freshness on the palate. The flavours and alcohol are perfectly balanced allowing it to be enjoyed neat.
Perfect serve:
1 part gin to 4 parts good Indian tonic water and ice
Add a sprig of fresh rosemary and a brined olive or 2 to enhance the savoury profile.
If olives are not to your taste add a ribbon of cucumber and a few black peppercorns.
Both options result in a great G&T. Alternatively a slice of lemon always works well.
Alternative Serve
As the gin has a savoury profile it makes an excellent dirty martini:
70ml Kelp gin, half a capful or less of vermouth, 2 teaspoons olive brine, plus brined olive to garnish
